Here’s a cheeky one: The original AC Cobra was so light and powerful that it could out-accelerate the tyres of the era. In fact, during early testing, the Cobra was so brutally quick that it would shred its tyres in just a few minutes of hard driving. Engineers had to limit testing runs and constantly swap tyres because there simply weren’t street tyres available in the early 1960s that could cope with the 400+ bhp being sent to the rear wheels. The car was literally too powerful for its own rubber!
